Dubfire drives his new Traktor

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Native Instruments teases us with a video of Dubfire road-testing the new version of Traktor and its integrated controller at Space Club earlier this month. The good folks at DJ TechTools break out the magnifying glass and share their educated guesses as to what we should expect from the new version, including a two-deck/four-channel mixing console, four cue pads per deck, and a built-in sound card.

Meet us at the Loveparade

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Anthony Rother has done some dark, disturbing music in his day, but for this year’s Loveparade theme, ‘The Art of Love’, he’s gone all sweetness-and-light on us. Awwww!

He’s not the only one: in honor of Loveparade, featured performers Mark Knight and Fedde Le Grand are giving away two tracks for free: just go here to get ‘Mannheim’ and ‘Back and Forth’ feat. Mr. V.

This Saturday, when Loveparade spreads gute Laune throughout Duisberg, in Germany’s Ruhr region, catch Rother, Tiesto, David Guetta, Booka Shade, Westbam, ATB, Fedde Le Grand, Boys Noize, Mark Knight, M.A.N.D.Y., and more on the main stage— and keep your eyes out for Beatport’s own float, co-presented with Fedde Le Grand, Mark Knight, and VirtualNights.

For full Loveparade info, click here. Check out both parts of ‘Loveparade 2010 - The Art of Love (The Official Compilation)’ after the jump, and keep reading for Loveparade charts from Anthony Rother, Mark Knight, Moonbootica, Tom Novy, Rebels Without a Cause, and more.

Festival Tips: Fedde Le Grand, Mark Knight, Kim Fai, Pan-Pot

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

This year’s festival is held in Duisburg, Germany, and Beatport will be right in the thick of things: we’ve teamed up with Fedde Le Grand, Mark Knight and VirtualNights to present a float.

We asked Fedde, Mark, Kim Fai, and Pan-Pot what to expect.

Festival Tips: Phil Kieran, Lindstrom, Motor

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Officially called the FIB Heineken, but popularly referred to by the name of the town where it takes place, Benicàssim is an annual four-day event held on the coast just north of Valencia, Spain. A magnet for British revelers, the festival strikes a balance between pop, indie rock, and underground electronic music, much like many British festivals — but with a lot less mud.

We asked Phil Kieran, Lindstrom, and Motor how they’re planning to get their FIB on.

Win tickets to Tomorrowland

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Belgium’s Tomorrowland Festival is sold out, but you have one more chance to get in: Smash The House and ID&T are giving away three pairs of tickets to the event. (Keep reading after the jump to find out how to enter.)

Even if you don’t win, you can still take vicarious pleasure from Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike, Dada Life, and Tara McDonald’s ‘Tomorrow (Give in to the Night)’, this year’s official Tomorrowland anthem. The main-stage headliners teamed up to capture the spirit of the festival, and they clearly hit the mark. Tiesto and Sebastian Ingrosso both played the instrumental version at WMC, but the addition of Tara McDonald’s vocals turned out to be the icing on the cake.

Swedish House Mafia dropped it right after their own ‘One’ at Sensation White Amsterdam, and it’s been spreading like wildfire. The tune is out now on Beatport, featuring remixes from Dabruck & Klein and Pacha Ibiza’s Sarah Main with John Voltaire.

Festival Tips: A-Trak, Sascha Funke, dOP, Roman Fluegel

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

For anyone in Germany right now, the Melt! Festival—in name, anyway—might seem slightly redundant; we’ve been melting in the summer heat for weeks now. Perhaps they could re-christen it the Freeze! Festival, just for this year?

All kidding aside, Melt! is one of Germany’s biggest events, held in the surreal, post-apocalyptic setting of Ferropolis—a kind of Jurassic Park of industrial technologies—and pulling together the A-list of the A-list of underground electronic dance music and indie rock.

We asked A-Trak, Sascha Funke, dOP, and Roman Fluegel what to expect.

Download free tracks from Red Bull Music Academy

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

The Red Bull Music Academy has been going for 13 years now, affording hundreds of talented participants the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend two intense weeks studying music production and DJ techniques. From the very beginning, RBMA has granted access to some of the world’s most respected musical minds—everyone from Derrick May to Bob Moog—who serve as lecturers and mentors.

And the RBMA graduates frequently go on to become major names themselves: the list of alumnae includes Cosmin TRG, Culoe De Song, Dorian Concept, Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke, Jacob Korn, James What, Jneiro Jarel, Lukid, Mano Le Tough, Nina Kraviz, Patrice Baumel, Pilooski, San Soda, Sonja Moonear, Space Dimension Controller, Subeena, TOKiMONSTA, and Spank Rock’s XXXChange, to name just a few.

One hell of a track record, in other words.

To showcase this year’s edition, RBMA has put together the double-CD compilation, ‘Various Assets – Not For Sale 2010′, collecting tracks created at RBMA’s London semester by participants and lecturers, both solo and in collaboration. The album features Kidkanevil, James Pants, TOKiMONSTA, Sui Zhen, Robin Hannibal, Juan Son, Modeselektor, Flava D, Marco Passarani, J-Wow, Lucrecia Dalt, Space Dimension Controller, Lunice, Hudson Mohawke, Tranqill, Katy B, Dâm-Funk, Minus, Myele Manzanza, and more.
