Various Artists – Music For Jazz Dancers

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Music For Jazz DancersA collection of superb jazz dance club floor shakers compiled by DJ Adrian Gibson – ’Music for Jazz Dancers’ is a selection of hot & exclusive tunes taken directly from DJ Adrian Gibsons’ sets at ’Messin’ Around’, the club he has been running for 14 years with DJ Perry Louis (who is also the leader of the Jazz CoTech Dancers)

The UK Jazz-Dance Scene is a uniquely positioned scene that has sent shock waves around the world and influenced countless artists, DJ’s and Dancers. Despite this, it is surprisingly sparsely documented with regards to CD’s, Books and articles detailing the songs, dance moves, key DJ’s, dancers and clubs. Luckily, we recently had the fantastic ’From Jazz Funk & Fusion to Acid Jazz’ by Freestyle recording artist/DJ and now author Mark ‘Snowboy’ Cotgrove’

Peter Herbolzheimer’s Rhythm Combination & Brass featuring Dianne Reeves kick off the CD with a storming rendition of the Ray Noble jazz standard ’Cherokee’ which was initially made famous by Charlie Parker. Other highlights include Primo & the Groupe’s ‘A Child Runs Free’, a wonderful modern take on Fred Johnson’s notoriously rare Vocal Jazz track, and Marcos Ariel’s ‘Samba Torto’ which is Brazilian Samba-Fusion of the highest order.

Music For Jazz Dancers draws together be-bop, nu-jazz, big band and samba/jazz fusion sounds, the common denominator being that they all inspire hot heeled hoofers to throw jazz shapes across discerning dancefloors the world over! If you like what you have heard you can visit some of the Jazz-Dance clubs like ’Shiftless Shuffle’ or ’Out To Lunch’ to experience the music and atmosphere for yourself.

Tesla Boy – Modern Thrills

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Modern Thrills- Tesla Boy teased us in 2009 with two spectacular EPs but that was just the appetiser. It’s now 2010 and the main course, ‘Modern Thrills’ is ready to be served. It’s the album they had to make; it’s the album that only they could make. Consolidating their position as the greatest pop band in the world today. They may well be the music industry’s best-kept secret outside of their native Russia but ‘Modern Thrills’ sees them set to tear through the iron curtain and into a Western World salivating for their synth-pop banquet. There is no cashing in on the eighties revival. There is no cynical marketing to target demographics. This is Tesla Boy. This is what they do. They make 100% distilled pop music direct from their soul.On ‘Modern Thrills’ they still deliver the thumping dance-floor fillers that got you moving before but they also pull it back with touching and emotive performances like the heart-string wrenchingly beautiful ‘Speed Of Light’ – a track that penetrates deeper into your conscience on every single play. Rarely can a band make such strong bonds with mind, body and soul in their work.Elsewhere their neon lights shine upon ‘Thinking Of You’ – it’s beats will move your feet whilst the sweeping synths will tickle your endorphins into life. Their boundless potential and maturing sound is never more perfectly realised than on the haunting love song ‘Rebecca’ – which substitutes euphoria for poignant as it soundtracks a million love-story showreels in your mind. It’s an album that plays end-to-end perfectly with a well constructed and thought through track listing but also every track has hit-single written all over it. Punch the random play button and you are guaranteed a classic.Tesla Boy are a young and good looking band ready to soundtrack your life and adorn heavily postered teenage walls. If Smash Hits was still going, Tesla Boy would be on the front cover every week!We hope you enjoy! :o)Mullet HQ.
