Joseph Indelicato
& Chriss Vargas
“Sex Is A Drug”
(Abel Ramos NY With Love Mix)
Nervous Records a label of sure quality and an artist of proved experience cannot let your expectations down. Joseph Indelicato return with the Colombian DJ & Producer Chriss Vargas release another great production, “Sex Is A Drug” with the Abel Ramos NY With Love Mix a highly recommended remix because it has been done well but also because it works really well also. Warm and captivating an analogical synth and influences I say minimal, electronic sounds distinguish, instead, the piece that with the latin atmosphere … Pure eroticism…!

Hook N Sling, Adam K - Working Kings Cross (Original Mix)

Hook N Sling,
Adam K
“Working Kings Cross”
(Original Mix)
I thought electro house was on the way out? Well someone needs to fill in the crew at Australia’s Ministry of Sound because they’ve pulled out yet another compilation that had my bemused housemate asking me “are people still actually buying and listening to this?” ‘Apparently so’ was all I could reply. Under the guise of ‘Progression’, we’re taken on a journey of somewhat progressive electro house beats and vocal tracks, then tossed in are some bleeps and dog-calling sounds. Hook N Sling and Adam K’s DJ skills aren’t the issue, they do well to meld together this compilation, dishing out tracks from names like Deadmau5, Martin Solveig, Laidback Luke, Bass Kleph, Chris Lake, Gui Boratto, Kurd Maverick and many more, plus numerous numbers by both individually. It’s just a shame that the tracks aren’t something fresher than claiming to be

Chris Lake & LYS - La Tromba (LYS Remix)

Chris Lake & LYS
“La Tromba”
(LYS Remix)

Chris Lake and Lys return to Rising Music after their smash “Violins” with the follow up “La Tromba” The original is an epic track with a lead that will stimulate a dance floor, add to it the groovy percussion that runs throughout and it is easy to see why this track has been doing the damage on some of the world’s coolest dancefloors. Lys’s remix has grooves interwoven skilfully throughout. The percussion in this track is brought to the forefront by Lys whilst still retaining the big room values of the original.

Funkerman, Mitch Crown - Slide (Mastiksoul Remix)

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Funkerman,

Mitch Crown
“Slide”
(Mastiksoul Remix)
It is in fact Mitch Crown who drips his infamously honeyed voice all over Slide’s guitar-led riffs and jumped-up rhythm sections. Sexy with just the right amount of sleaze, the track is Funkerman doing what he does best, dishing up a summer-time single that eschews the current trend for minimal ‘tap-dripping’ beats, coming out all guns blazing on behalf of house. On official remix duty are 4Kenzo head honcho Mastiksoul and Moguai. Kenzo puts a horn-led twist on Funkerman’s original edit. Rolling tribal beats, bursts of up-tempo energy and a pumped up groove give the main points of Slide an extra punch, perfect for working sun-kissed crowds into a frenzy! Moguai strips the tune down to its bare bones, and then creates a throbbing guitar-led minimal masterpiece that bubbles under for a sexed-up, near enough dub version.

How the Swedish House Mafia hijacked 2009

Friday, July 31st, 2009

When last I saw them, they were men of sweat and bristling facial hair. Rockstars in the spotlight. They knocked down celebrities, urged us to revolt, and partied like it was the end of things. It was a time of hedonism and tequila in the veins. How boldly they DJed, how cocky they seemed.

The Swedish House Mafia owned Miami’s Winter Music Conference in March with outlandish performances, a momentous record, and a scandal.

Today however, the trio’s Steve Angello and Axwell are polite, and only want to talk music, as they contemplate where 2009 leads.

Weekend Weapons…Elite Force

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Elite Force unites the sometimes warring factions of electro house, techno, and breakbeat, like a peace keeper who values the spirit of cooperation and tolerance.

He was forged in the fires of breakbeat, which has always had a habit of sucking in sounds that pass by. Elite’s sets are like a team performance, with tracks coming from all corners of the bass-driven sector, to create a vibrant hodgepodge of boundary-pushing dance music.

His U&A Recordings is a bastion for genre-defying club music from open-minded artists like Zodiac Cartel, Dustbowl, and Meat Katie, all of whom sit comfortably in the grey territory between four-to-the-floor grooves and broken beat.

With genres meaning less and less these days, we decided to find which weapons Elite Force has lurking in his accommodating record box.
