Back 2 The Essence
Back 2 The Essence
Peter Brown
“Old School”
(Club Mix)
The Old School never goes out of date and this record confirms it. “Check This Out” by the mythical HardHouse aka Todd Terry has been taken and re-proposed in a electro house key with great ability; the Club mix by Peter Brown given the right amount of push that offers great emotion from the first to the last groove, the Dub mix by Reza that will be amongst the hits of this moment that obligates you to buy the double copy, In just a few words it is one of those records that you will never take out of your bags!!

A Community whisper today alerted us to the (optimistically named) Global Media Summit, which is set to take place on 27th March at South Seas Hotel.
Its organisers are touting the GMS as “a one-stop press magnet where the media can find the artists that are making today’s global headlines while the artists can get their messages about their music to the media all in one great event location”.
Sounds great on paper, as the WMC has for years lacked a focal point for industry networking, however many observers will point out that WMC’s business networking ideals are enjoying the peripheries far too much to be centralised.
Here’s the video for ‘The Angst’, the first single to be released from DJ Hell’s forthcoming album ‘Teufelswerk’.
Filmed in black and white, the video features poignant images of windswept women moving to the song’s slow burning subtlety. Stylistically, it’s a classy and delicate approach – one that could only have come from a man who has many years of making music under his belt.

Hervé, also known as the Count, Voodoo Chilli, Action Man, Dead Soul Brothers, Speaker Junk and Young Lovers, drops his hard-hitting Essential Mix for Radio 1 this week in a barrage of non-stop ghetto electro madness.
With a Lily Allen remix recently under his belt and a collaboration with DJ Sneak forthcoming on Cr2 Records, the label boss of Cheap Thrills Records tears up the airwaves with a searing blend of garage electro noise, bass-heavy club hits and a dash of nearly every other subgenre thrown in for good measure.
Pete Tong launched Ibiza’s International Music Summit last summer, and by most accounts, it was a very successful micro networking event for electronic music.
The 2009 edition however looks set to eclipse last year’s event considerably, if the first whisperings of confirmed keynote speakers is anything to go by.
Having notched up four releases under his own steam, Alan now turns to his contemporaries to push the 8 Sided Dice envelope in to 2009.
Following an awesome EP from Rocha & Lewinger that had Josh Wink, Adam Beyer and Luciano all in support comes the first of a set of EPs from the combined force of Fergie, Reset Robot (aka Dave Robertson) and 8 Sided’s Alan Fitzpatrick.
When the lots were drawn and coins tossed it was lucky dice man Alan Fitzpatrick who got the chance to reveal this exciting production Trinity. Two further EPs are nearing completion and will be released later this year before a possible mini album from the trio. Future EP’s will be released on Fergie’s impressive Excentric label and on Reveal following Dave’s releases on SCI+TEC.
It is not perhaps surprising perhaps that when three producers come together who naturally gravitate towards differing points on the techno spectrum that the result is a balance that slots neatly half way up the scale. Rollin, tech house rhythms give Gas Mask a mid-set feel but the intensity of the distinctive scary siren noises push this track towards more peak-time deployment.
Rattlesnake takes a more straightforward approach to knocking the dancefloor over. Punchy, relentless rhythms and razor-sharp snares are joined by a warped, undulating bassline that booms along behind a well-chosen armory of effects. The lead hook comes courtesy of a crowd-destroying rising siren sound that teases in and out of the main break then lets rip at full force.
Galaxy Group featuring Lady Alma’Don’t Play’ (The Remixes)Loveslap! Records When you pair one of San Francisco’s leading soulful house beat merchants with an equally talented label mogul, the result is always likely to be something special. Add to the mix Lady Alma’s seductive vocal prowess, some quite stunning live musicianship, and a stellar remix package featuring both DJ Spinna and Ruffy & Tuffy, and the resultant is total fulfillment. The Galaxy Group is the latest in a long line of quality releases from the Bay Area’s exemplary Loveslap! Recordings label. Comprising Antoine Green (aka Capitol A) and Charles Spencer, the duo have now been working together for several years since they collaborated on a remix of ‘Serve It Up’ a Sonar Kollektiv single for Green’s Capital A nom de plume. The result was met with such critical acclaim that the two created the Galaxy Group alias. Fast-forward to 2009 and ‘Don’t Play’, the lead single from the upcoming opus, ‘This Is Who We Are’. Philly-based soul singer Lady Alma offers her vocal dexterity to the soul-drenched debut, a silky tour de force of jazzy house rhythms, subtle sun-kissed swinging percussive fills and a rich Mediterranean melody that has all the warmth of the midday sun, yet the coolness of the ocean’s breeze. Spinna’s trio of mixes are subtle in the extreme and the epitome of cool for a record that is expected to wow the Miami elite in March at the WMC pool parties and beach gatherings alike. While San Fran’s space-disco kids Ruffy & Tuffy, also known as 40 Thieves, deliver an equally stunning slice of chunkier future disco nuances that paint an altogether more bumping soundscape. The first of a dozen polished and timeless tracks housed within ‘This Is Who We Are’, – the album features a support cast including Chicago songstress Carla Prather, percussionist Rafael Moraes and Mark de Clive Lowe on keyboards. Drawing influences as wide and varied as deep-house, broken-beat and hip-hop, the collection marks an exciting new direction for both producers and label alike with its uncomplicated and assuredly smooth blend of quality-assured songs, it’s sure to edify the taste buds. ‘Don’t Play’ (The Remixes) is released: January 2009 ‘This Is Who We Are’ is released: April 2009 Early Feedback for Don’t Play: Tony Humphries: This is wicked! 5/5 Aaron Ross: HOT HOT HOT 5/5 Deli- G : DOPE!!!!! 5/5 Lars Behrenroth: 10minutes and it never feels too long ..
